Operations

Schaun Valdovinos, PE, PEng is V+M founder and principal, and a leading bridge engineer and project manager who creates structures that are aesthetically pleasing, economical and constructible. He enjoys the process of working with clients to bring their projects from concept design through construction by being responsive to project context and client needs. More information on his experience can be found here.

Chisaki Muraki, MUP has nearly two decades of experience as a city planner working in land use, transportation, public space/art, community development, public engagement, and racial equity. She wears multiple hats for V+M primarily contributing her research/writing skills to project work and her big-picture thinking and process improvement experience to support internal organizational work.

Engineering

Chelene Wong, PEng (British Columbia Bridge Practice Lead), is a seasoned bridge engineer and project manager dedicated to conceiving resilient structural solutions. She has worked on a dozen or so pedestrian bridges and preliminary/detailed design of several major LRT projects across Canada. Chelene and Schaun have worked together on bridge designs and LRT projects over the past decade.

Yarek Hosek has over 25 years of experience in structural design/construction and was involved in the design and construction of a variety of structural systems including WSDOT concrete bridges and Sound Transit LRT Stations & Trackways. He also has experience with bridge load rating and seismic retrofits. His last role ranged from design engineer to field office engineer for the Downtown Bellevue Tunnel and East Link Stations.

Qi Zhang is a bridge engineer with over 8 years of experience specializing in seismic analysis. With a PhD from the University of British Columbia, Qi is a faculty member at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and is a registered professional engineer in both Washington and British Columbia. Qi’s overarching goal is to bridge the gap between research and engineering practices, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and resilience of structures.

Shawn Wang, SE, PE holds a PhD from University of Washington in structural engineering and excels in seismic performance, computer analysis, steel, and concrete design. He started his career working on the Taiwan High Speed Rail. He has since designed various structural systems including cable-stayed, network tie-arch, movable, and steel truss bridges, and is experienced with load ratings and construction administration.

Drafting/3-D Rendering

Scott Varney (CAD Team Lead) is an expert in 3D computer-aided drafting and design, utilizing the full potential of Civil3D to construct precise models of bridges and associated structures. His skills extend to turning these models into high quality visualizations for clients and public outreach. Scott, Chelene and Schaun first worked together nearly a decade ago and share an interest in connecting communities.

Gary Lee has significant drafting experience for structural projects. He is accustomed to using Civil3D to develop plans for bridges structures, culvert replacements, EPS embankments, and MSE retaining wall systems. As a solutions-oriented individual, Gary leverages technical knowledge to produce accurate CAD models and drawings.
