Microsoft is modernizing its existing Redmond campus facility over the next several years, and as a part of this work, a new pedestrian bridge across SR-520 will connect the West Campus to the East Campus. The Redmond Technology Center (RTC) bridge is being designed strictly for pedestrian and bicycle users with separated pathways and vegetation along each edge of the bridge deck.

The west end of the bridge will be connected from the Commons by a lightweight approach embankment atop the underground parking garage. At the east end, the bridge will tie-in to an elevated plaza as part of the East Campus refresh. An intermediate connection with the Flyer bus stop and Sound Transit Light Rail Station will be provided via an access bridge spurring off the main pedestrian bridge at the east edge of SR-520.

V+M was retained by Microsoft to carry out a value engineering study of the 60% design, looking for opportunities to optimize the design and to reduce material requirements.
