The Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland sought proposals through an international design competition for a new bridge linking the Irish National War Memorial Gardens to an existing cycling path in the heart of Dublin. The bridge will be complemented by a ceremonial entry point and plaza space to suit the surrounding landscape of its proposed location.

V+M provided structural inputs for the conceptual bridge design of the new crossing over the River Liffey, in collaboration with VIA Architecture. The design team developed a design proposal to honor the significance of the site and to provide a meaningful, memorable experience for visitors.

The proposed curved bridge superstructure consists of a variable depth torsion box beam made integral with the orthotropic deck to form a through girder system. It was envisioned that the structural elements would be prefabricated off-site in segments to reduce on-site construction efforts.
